Making sure your documents show up correctly in search results

Have an important PDF or Office document you're posting to the website or a blog? Want to make sure people can find it? Many aspects of Google's search algorithm are a trade secret, but we do know some things it definitely looks for, and we need to take these things into account when we put files on the web. If your pages use the Bryn Mawr templates, you should always copy an existing page to create a new page using the same template. Otherwise you will get a blank white page without the Bryn Mawr logo or navigation. To create a new page... 1. Updating PDF or Word documents on your site

If you have uploaded a document (such as a PDF or Word document) via Contribute, you may need to update that document later. 1. Edit the document on your computer as usual, then save it with the same file name it currently has on the web. Important: If the file names do not match (including capital letters, underscores, etc), you won't overwrite the old version of the document, and people will still be able to find it via links or bookmarks, causing confusion! Blog Feeds and How to Use Them on BMC Pages

What is a feed? Feeds (or, more accurately, RSS feeds), are used to syndicate online content. At Bryn Mawr we use feeds to pull content from one place that is being constantly updated.  The Bryn Mawr homepage is an example of this- the Events, News and other information come from blogs that are located elsewhere, and the feeds can appear anywhere else on the web, such as the news gateway.  Cntent is added once in the blog, and automatically updates wherever else the feed is used.
