Enable/ Disable Java Plugin (Mac and Windows)

Windows

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Open the Java control panel icon.
  4. To disable Java within the browser:
    1. Select the Security tab.
    2. Uncheck “Enable Java content within the browser”.
    3. Select the Advanced tab.
    4. Uncheck the boxes for each browser under “Default Java for browsers”
  5. To enable Java within the browser:
    1. Select the Security tab.
    2. Check “Enable Java content within the browser”.
    3. Select the Advanced tab.
    4. Check the boxes for each browser under “Default Java for browsers”

Mac OS X

  1. To disable Java within the browser on a Bryn Mawr computer:
    1. Open the Applications folder.
    2. Open “Run Advertised Programs.”
    3. Select the “All Programs” category on the right hand side.
    4. Run the “Disable Java Plugin” program
  2. To enable Java within the browser on a Bryn Mawr computer:
    1. Open the Applications folder.
    2. Open “Run Advertised Programs.”
    3. Select the “All Programs” category on the right hand side.
    4. Run the “Enable Java Plugin” program
  3. To enable Java within the browser on a personally owned computer:
    1. Follow instructions at for your platform to install/ upgrade to the latest Java version.
    2. Open “System Preferences.”
    3. Select the “Java” category at the bottom.
    4. Select the “Security” tab
    5. Check/ uncheck to enable/ disable respectively the Java plugin within the browser.
